Saving the Sea Turtles
Lesson Plan
Introduction
You have just read Turtle Watch
by George Ancona. There are several more species of sea
turtles that are also endangered. As a group, choose one species that you think
should be saved and research it using the links provided. Then, create a
PowerPoint presentation that tells us how this species can be saved.
The
Task
- With a partner, look at
the library books about sea turtles. Also, briefly explore these turtle
sites. Choose the species that your group will research further.
- Check
the sites to find a photo of your turtle.
Copy the URL of your picture and paste it into Inspiration. Save
the photo in your folder.
- Choose
another member of your group to draw and color a picture of your turtle.
Scan the picture and save it as a jpeg file in your folder.
- Choose
another member of your group to draw a picture of your turtle using
"Kid Pix" or "Paint". Save it in your folder.
- Members
of your group, who are not drawing the pictures, will research the links
above to answer the questions on the "Think Sheet".
Also, use books, Encyclopedias, and Encyclopedia CDs, such as Encarta and
Grolier. Include any other important information that you found on the
back of the sheet. Be sure to include the title and the author of the book
where you found the answer or the URL of the site. Get back together with
your group to discuss the information.
- Decide
who will do each page of the PowerPoint Presentation. Your presentation
must include the three pictures you have saved and:
- Title page with group members’ names
listed
- Where it lives
- What it eats
- Major threats that it faces
- Other interesting information
